When I open IE a popup says this was compiled with Delphi
and your trial has expired. Then I get a popup with a
runtime error.
Then IE loads.
How do I get rid of this?

You installed trialware and are attempting to use it beyond its trial
period. Don't use it (i.e., uninstall it).

To see what it might be, use BHO Demon (do a Google search to find it)
to see what ActiveX controls have been registered and incorporated into
IE. It could also be a firewall, proxy, program password encryptor, or
other "feature" that got installed which is intercepting the load of the
program or its connection. You could try using msconfig.exe to disable
all startup programs to see if the problems continues. If not, reenable
one startup program at a time until it reappears. Of course, if you
think this is not something you installed then you should run a full
scan with a recently updated anti-virus program and also run Ad-Aware,
Spybot, CWShredder, HijackThis, and other utilities to check for covert
crap on your system.

Hi BS - Well, you kinda need to know what the parasite(s) is/are before you
can do much about fixing them except to apply some general tools like
AdAware and/or SpyBot S&D (see below). If they don't fix it then start
here:

Download HijackThis, free, here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip it to any convenient folder, start it then press Scan. Click on
SaveLog when it's finished which will create hijackthis.log. Now click the
Config button, then Misc Tools and click on Generate StartupList.log which
will create Startuplist.txt

Then go to one of the following forums:

Spyware and Hijackware Removal Support, here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/index.php?s=8a236cdf61469fbad3bddbe810be0374&act=SF&f=11

or Net-Integration here:
http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-...86d536d57b5f65b6e40c55365e;act=ST;f=27;t=6949

or Tom Coyote here:
http://tomcoyote.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=10&t=495&s=2c6e92805e310b519b9fa61cc7098fba

Sign in, then copy and paste both files into a message asking for
assistance, Someone will answer with detailed instructions for the removal
of your parasite(s).

For the general hijack case, the best way to start is to get Ad-Aware 6.0,
Build 181 or later, here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/.
Update and run this regularly to get rid of most "spyware/hijackware" on
your machine. If it has to fix things, be sure to re-boot and rerun
AdAware again and repeat this cycle until you get a clean scan. The reason
is that it may have to remove things which are currently "in use" before it
can then clean up others.

Another excellent program for this purpose is SpyBot Search and Destroy
available here: http://security.kolla.de/ SpyBot Support Forum here:
http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi. I recommend
using both normally. After fixing things with SpyBot S&D, be sure to
re-boot and rerun SpyBot again and repeat this cycle until you get a clean
"no red" scan. The reason is that SpyBot sometimes has to remove things
which are currently "in use" before it can then clean up others.

Note that sometimes you need to make a judgement call about what these
programs report as spyware. See here, for example:

Dear Jim: I NEED YOU HELP URGENTLY.

I have a similar problem when I try to use Internet Explorer which is my
default browser I get " this module was completedwith a trial version of
Delphi that period has expired" I nevr download any delphy stuff. Now I
can do anything. I am using Netscape as temporal, however, if I try to
use to lnk any of web pages that you are suggesting to download I get
the same message, which means even with Netscape I am blocked. Please
help. Sice I have problem please mail me to (e-mail address removed) Happy
Thanksgiving Edgard

Hi Edgard - There are two proposed fixes for this currently being posted.
The one I've seen most often that apparently works is to use AdAware
immediately updating prior to running. Since you can't apparently access
the Internet, I can email you the install package and current update file if
your ISP will allow you to accept large (1.5+ MB and 380+ KB) attachments.
Email me with a valid email address at jrbyrd AT comcast.net
(make the obvious changes in the addy).

The other alternative which you might want to try locally first which has
been reported to work for some people is the following:

First, double click on your system clock at the bottom of your screen.
Change the years to 2002. Click OK. You will now be able to access all
your programs. You will now have to remove the trial application that
is causing the problem. I just removed all the trial version software
I had. Then changed the clock back to 2003. I hope this helps!

Along this line also, courtesy of PA Bear: "One user suggests resetting
clock to year 2002 and uninstalling 'CRS' via
Add/Remove Programs."

Post back or email me with your results/decision, please. Please take
special note of the exact, complete wording of any messages you get during
either process.

Hi Edgard - Here's some additonal information that may help:

From: http://bdn.borland.com/article/0,1410,31856,00.html

"This problem shows up because someone used a trial version of the
programming tool Delphi to write some software. They then published that
software and it ended up on your computer. Now that this person's trial
period of Delphi has expired, so has the software on your computer.
Unfortunately, this software appears to be what is called a "Shell
Extension," which is a piece of software that Windows loads and talks to
whenever you click on a file, open Internet Explorer, and in some other
situations as well. We have been able to determine which program is causing
this error, however we are still not quite sure how it is finding it's way
onto customers' computers.

Note: If you believe that this an application you should not remove please
use your own judgement of what you should do.
To remove this software, open up Control Panel via the Start Menu. Some
users have reported that the error prevents them from doing this; in this
case you will need to boot your computer into Safe Mode. To do this, reboot
the machine and press F8 as it is starting up. You will be presented with a
list of options, one of which is "Safe Mode." Once you have the Control
Panel open, select "Add/Remove Programs." You will see a list of
applications installed on your machine. One of these should be called "CPR."
Remove this application with the Add/Remove Programs window, and you should
see these errors go away. The users that we have spoken to have all reported
that this CPR application was not something they intentionally installed,
and have not reported any negative side effects from the removal of it.

On rare occasions, using Add/Remove Programs is not enough; a reference to
this software is still left on the machine and the error will persist. In
this case, you need to delete the offending software manually, and you will
need to log back into Safe Mode to do it. Once in Safe Mode, open the Start
Menu and select "Run." In the Run dialog, enter "cmd." This will take you to
a DOS window. Navigate to the c:windowssystem32 like so:

cd \windows\system32

and then remove the file manually by typing

erase cpr.dll

Reboot into normal mode and you should see the error go away."

.
Just wanted to let you know that I set my clock to 2002,
uninstalled all programs that were unknown, deleted some
associated folders, rebooted, set my clock back - all ok.
I believe it was an extra toolbar for popups I had in IE6.
