Does anyone out there have a template for keeping track of customers of a
delivery company?
I'm looking for a database usable by a delivery business. The main records
should contain these fields: Customer's Name, Address, Phones, Who Refered
by. These should be Searchable. For each of these records, there should be
the possibility of multiple records containing information for each delivery,
such as: Date, Driver, Driver's assistant, Pick-up Address, Destination
Address, Cargo list. The invoicing section of the DB should contain a way to
include several types of charges for each delivery, such as: Charges for
Distance, Waiting, Multiple Stops, and other charges. Reports should by by
Customer, Driver, or Date.

Sounds to me like you need a custom application. There are plenty of folks
here that would write one for you, but I suggest you learn enough to write
your own. That way you'll be able to customize it with new reports and
functionality as you need it.

Use John Viescas: Microsoft Office Access 2003 Inside Out as a good book to
learn with.

and try Rebecca Riordan's new book: Designing Effective Database Systems

as a good design primer if you need more depth than John's book. As always,
we are ready to help with specific questions.

Hello Arvin Meyer,

I understand what you're saying, and I agree that I need a custom
application. Doesn't everyone? However, there must be others who need
something like this. Any service company that has different types of charges
and no inventory. There's a template (time and billing) for a service
company, but it assumes that they charge only one hourly charge. Then
there's a template (service call) for a service company with products and
again it assumes only one type of hourly charge. Let's just say that the
others are for other types of business other than mine. I realize that it's
pointless to ask for a template for a specific task (then it wouldn't be a
template). But a template that could be used by all businesses like mine is
a good thing to request. So, My original request stands... Any one have a
template like that?
