I have a user who has an Excel 2000 SS which prompts her with this message
when she opens it, "The workbook you opened contains automatic links to
information in another workbook. Do you want to update this workbook?"

She doesn't want this prompt to come up at all. We can't seem to be able to
turn off this linking message. What can I do to not have to hit 'No' all
the time?

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

Go to Edit>Links> and then the "startup prompt" button at
the bottom left. This will let you choose how you want
the link to act when opening a file.

Charlie,

Thanks for the reply, but I don't have a startup prompt button that I can
see. Am I missing something?

It was added in xl2002 (IIRC).

If you want the links to be updated, but you don't want to be prompted with the
message, you can:

tools|Options|Edit Tab
uncheck the "ask to update automatic links"

This is a setting that affects all the workbooks opened by that user (and no one
else).

If you don't want the prompt and don't want the update, you could have a dummy
workbook open it and that dummy workbook can tell excel not to bother with the
prompt or update.
