I bought a computer for my grandaughter, however I will
not let her use it because the person I bought it from
visit many x-rated sites and the still are in the history
of the address bar. I have tried deleting history, no
luck. I have gone into internet opitions; content section
proceded with autocomplete then hit the clear forms
button, still no success. The operating system is 2000. I
am clear out of ideas any help will greatly appreciated.
Thanks

HI,
Those may be in a TypedURLs key in the registry. This article explains the
TypedURLs history:
157729 - How to Clear the History Entries in Internet Explorer:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q157729
Removing some or all entries is an easy registry edit.

For an easier, safer removal method, go to
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
and download "DelTypedURL." This INF file will remove all entries.

These two freeware programs will remove some or all entries:
IE Address Bar Editor: http://www.freesoft.fsnet.co.uk/ieedit01.htm
EditURLs: http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/index.htm

Tip: If you type URLs in via File> Open, instead of the address bar, they
aren't
saved in the TypedURLs key and you can keep a select few URLs in the
drop-down list.

Also, I would delete the History folder.
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder (and the index.dat file) and a new one will be created when
you restart.
Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

This would also be a good time to run Ad-aware & Spybot. See
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm for information on those programs
and some security tips.

Hope this helps,
Don

Don, Thank you very much for your prompt response. However, I did everything including running purge IE, the results were the same the url's are still in the address drop down. If there is anything else please let me know. Thank you in advance

Shelbie

Shelbie,
Do these URLs appear when you start to type in the address bar or do they
appear when you click the down arrow on the right end of the address bar?

dekanran,

If all attempts have failed please try removing entries from registry as
follows:

Open your registry and find the key below and delete any value you want to
remove. Or remove the entire key to delete all entries. You need to restart
Internet Explorer for the change to take effect.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs]

Hi Dekanran - To delete ALL Addresses in the Drop Down list, go here and
download and install Mike Burgess' DelTypedURL.inf at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm See below for Selective Delete.

You can also get DelSearchMRU.inf at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelSearchMRU.inf

Note: this does not remove entries entered via AutoComplete. To remove
hidden AutoComplete entries in History:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm#AutoComplete

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure that ALL instances of IE6 are CLOSED before you do
the install of this (these) .inf files.

A nice alternative just for selective or all Address (not Search) history
maintenance is EditURLs, here: http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/ Here also,
you must close ALL instances of IE6 for the deletions to "take".
