Restored to windows 98se to reinstall XP Home upgrade. Upgrade advisor tells
me that I must delete "Microsoft shared Fax Client" before upgrade can
proceed. Can't find it in the add/remove programs. Any suggestions? many
thanks

1. Open up My Computer.
2. Go to Tools, Folder Options.
3. Put a check in "Show hidden files and folders".
4. Click on Start, then Run.
5. Type in: CMD , and hit enter.
6. Type in: cd\ , then hit enter.
7. Type in: dir fxsclnt.exe /s
(Remember what directory you found the file in)
8. Type in Exit.
9. Double click on My Computer.
10. Right-click on the C: drive and click on Explorer.
11. Find the directory that housed the fxsclnt.exe.
12. Delete the file and restart.

Carey,

I have encountered the same problem with MS Shared Fax Client.
Unfortunately, when I tried you solution I was not able to run "CMD" due to
missing components. I then tried to FIND fxsclnt.exe to no avail. Any other
suggestions?

Thanks, Keith.

Keith,

When searching for fxsclnt.exe you must have the 'advanced Options' checked
because this is a hidden file. There should be 3 locations this file is
located:
1) C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$
2) C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
3) C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

Drew,

thanks for your help. Couldn't find the WINDOWS\system32\dllcache directory
but found the file in the others plus in WINDOWS\software
distribution\6ca7b3a8efd5a9b6f87fff. XP install is now progressing.

Keith.
