I have a number of news messages that are stored somewhere. I do a search,
and I see them listed, but don't know how to get rid of them I want to
permanently delete them...can anyone help ? Thanks.

Windows Home Basic

They're stored both on the newsgroups server and on your computer. You can
delete the copies stored on your computer, but it's unlikely you can delete
the
copies on the server, especially if you didn't write those messages.

For the copies on your computer, bring them up in Windows Mail, then click
Edit, then Delete.

well, they are not in my WINDOWS MAIL ...I did a search for them, and they
are located in a folder that I cannot find. I want to get these
deleted....any other suggestions ? Thanks.

Highlight them in the Search window and press the Delete key.

You must at some time have subscribed to a news feed and downloaded those
messages?

Vista comes with the MS Communities news server already set up,
tools>accounts>MS Communities.

Does that account still exist?

If you set up a newsgroup under that server account and then simply removed
the account or unsubscribed to the newsgroups, it is possible that the
messages are still in your store folder?

First go to Control Panel>click on Classic View (top left)>folder
options>view tab>scroll down to and enable 'show hidden files &
folders'>apply/OK. close control panel.

Now go to WM>Tools>options>advanced tab>maintenance>store folder>select and
copy the path given>now click Cancel>close>cancel.

Close WM

Now go to Start>Run and Paste the path you just copied in to the Run line>OK

A window will open showing all the files in your store folder below Windows
Mail, look for any legacy News entries and delete them. Do not touch
anything else. Close out of Windows Explorer.

Search again for the elusive messages, are they gone?

I followed your instruction. Messages are still listed when I do a search.

Sorry to hear that.

But you did not answer my questions:

"You must at some time have subscribed to a news feed and downloaded those
messages? (yes or no).

Vista comes with the MS Communities news server already set up,
tools>accounts>MS Communities.

Does that account still exist? " (yes or no).

I have no idea what or where you are seeing the messages, or any other
method of removing them atm.
