I downloaded the latest Microsoft updates the other day. One of the updates
was a spam filter update. Somehow this prevented me from being able to empty
the deleted folder mail in Windows Mail. I get the message: "unknown error
has occurred". How do I fix this? Please help.
I am running Vista.

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common
antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee,
or a recent one from Trend, tend to cause such problems, although
seldom immediately, so if you have such a program, remember where
to find the fix - you are likely to need it again.

It happened to me...long and painful to fix...I had about 96 of them...
Right click on 'Deleted Items' and click 'empty deleted items folder'
Click yes to 'are you sure you want to permanently delete etc' and this will
delete one at a time
Repeat for each one...takes a while :(

It worked! Thankyou very much. At first I tried the 64bit download. Nothing
happened. I then downloaded the 32bit. The first 3 times I right clicked on
the deleted items folder and selected "empty folder" it only deleted 1 email
at a time. Then the fourth time it deleted 10. Second time 10. Third time it
finally erased all 412 messages. Thank God!

You're welcome.
