Deleting Messages from the Inbox

Hopefully a simple question.

I just started using Outlook 2003. When I delete a message
from my Inbox, it strikes a line through it. However, it
does not get removed from the Inbox and placed into the
Deleted Items folder. When I choose "Purge Deleted Items",
they all get deleted (even the messages that I somehow put
in the Deleted Items folder).

Question: How do I delete items from the Inbox completely
and have the go into the Deleted Items folder without
completely purging them?

Thanks.

Sounds like you're using IMAP access, which just marks items for delete, but
doesn't delete them immediately.
