deleting macros

If anyone can help with this problem, it would be greatly appreciated

I installed a macro from a strange source, and now regret it. It does not work and interrupts the start-up and closing of Word everytime I go in. I tried to access it from the macro list, but the delete button is blocked

Is it possible to delete it some other way? I tried ignoring it, but it holds up production, and I fear it could be harmful in the long run

Any assistance would be appreciated. I looked in Help, but only got so far

Thanks

How did you install it?

It sounds to me as though the macro is stored in an add-in. You will have to
either open the add-in template to edit it or simply remove it from the
start-up folder.

I cannot imagine the circumstances that would prevent you from deleting a
macro if it had been saved in the default template, but even if that was the
case, you could rename normal.dot to oldnormal.dot and the macros in that
file would go away.

There are two startup folders applicable to Word - the Word startup which is
defined in tools > options > file locations > startup
and
the Office startup folder, the location of which will be determined by
Office version, but
it will probably be at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP where 11 is the Word
version - here Word 2003.
For Word 2000 and 97 there is no number in the path.
