Deleting Longhorn Installation

Have you tried deleting the partition(s) then recreating the partition(s),
then formatiing the partition(s) (not using the quick method) when booting
from Windows XP CD.

I installed the WinHEC alpha of Longhorn on a machine which I've since
dismantled.

I'd like to use the hard drive from that machine, but unfortunately it now
has (an obviously corrupt) installation of Longhorn on it. On my new machine
(running Windows XP) I managed to delete all the files off of it, but windows
refuses to format it and I still get the dual-boot option on system startup.

Is there a way to format this drive and get rid of the "ghost" installation
of Longhorn?

Thanks!

I tried this using a Win98 bootdisk but of course fdisk freaks out with the
NTFS file format, not to mention the Raid0 setup I have for my main Windows
XP install.

Is there a way to do what you say using the WinXP boot CD without
interfering with my winXP installation? I don't want to ruin my system just
to delete this partition.

Thanks

In windows XP do this

start>run and type

msconfig

then Boot.ini>"Check All Boot Paths"

this should get rid of your "Ghost"

start>run and type

msconfig

then Boot.ini>"Check All Boot Paths"

This should get rid of the "Ghost".

Did you try and format from

start>run and type

diskmgmt.msc

then right click the drive you want to format and select format.

That got rid of the boot menu - THANKS!

I tried your method for formatting the drive but the "format" command in the
drop-down menu is greyed out for that drive. Windows says it's status is
"Healthy (System)"
The drive that windows XP is installed on (the Raid 0 partition) is labeled
"Healthy (Boot)"
