deleting jpg duplicates

I have read that what appears to be duplicates of deleted photos are not
really duplicates, rather they are shortcuts.
That may be so but I have up to 15 copies of every JPG I have deleted. Is
there a way to get rid of this mess without deleting my entire doc folder?
Thanks in advance for any advice the group may be able to offer.

If u had app that found all invalid shortcuts, would that
do? http://www.danish-shareware.dk/soft/emptemp/index.html
can find broken shortcuts (.lnk files) on your harddisk, so
you can delete or fix them

Any advise given is my attempt to show appreciation for all
the excellent help I've received here but I'm no MVP so it
may only apply NUGS (Normally, Usually, Generally, Sometimes :)
