I need to delete several items permanently from my desktop/computer. I am
new to PC's always used MACs before.

Thanks

right click and delete. Note that in almost all cases this will get rid of
the icon, but not the program leading to it. For that, you need to go into
control panel, add / remove software.

Right click the item and click Delete.

Click the item to select it and hit the Delete key on your keyboard.

You can also select multiple items, right click and click Delete or hit the
Delete key on your keyboard. Items should go to the Recycle bin.

If you use Shift + Delete items will bypass the Recycle bin and be deleted
forever. You will not be able to Restore them from the Recycle bin. So use
with caution or do not use that key combination at all.

Open Help and Support from your Start menu.
Click on Windows basics.
Click the [+] next to Core Windows tasks to expand the list.
Click on Working with files and folders.
Click on anything that interests you in the right hand pane, like delete a
file or folder.
Use the Back button on the top toolbar to see the list again.

The right-click info is correct; I just wanted to add that there are some
"special" icons on the desktop that windows will not allow you to delete.
Those are system folders. Just in case you come across them <g>.

What exactly are you trying to delete? Have you tried anything? If so and
it didn't work, what exactly happened?

Thanks for the help. I finally dragged it to the recycling bin with the
shift key down and they went away. Hope that works.
