Deleting Folder

Have this folder in Program Files. Can't delete because
the folder is being used elsewhere.

This particular folder is empty: C\Program
Files\Microsoft frontpage\version3.0\bin
These are all folders, no files. "bin" folder is empty.
I would like to delete this directory. How? I tried to
do Kelly's Korner tips on it, but couldn't figure out how
to do the DOS command in command prompt. Please don't
just refer me to that page because I tried it and
couldn't do it - don't know how to type it out I guess.

There is another folder in this same directory:
C\Program Files\xerox\nwwia. That last folder nwwia
generates the same error message as the previous example
when I try to delete it - "being used elsewhere, disable
the other program".

I downloaded process explorer and can tell where those
other folders named "bin" are located; haven't searched
for nwwia yet. But don't know what to do with info.
Help please.

Reboot your computer off of the windows xp setup disk and follow the
directions to get to the recovery console.

From there login as the administrator and run the command from there.

To reboot from a cdrom simply insert the disk and restart the computer. When
prompted press f1/del/esc to enter the bios setup. Set your boot order to
boot from your cdrom before your hard drive.

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to delete a folder and Windows gives you a message that it is being used and you can not delete it.

There is one program which I use that force Windows to delete what I tell it to delete, well, almost everything.
It is available as trial ware, so you can download it for free, and if you like it after 30 days, you
can opt to buy it.

It is called "SureClean" from Panicware: www.panicware.com

Thanks, Ron, but unfortunately I got a compaq with xp
installed and no windows bootup disk, just a full
recovery/restore to factory specs. cd. Any other way?

Yes, you got it right, Larry, error message and all! I
will check that software out. Sounds like a good one to
have.
Muchos gracias!!!

Command Prompt won't let me - says they access it because
it's being used by another process.
How do I find out the other process?

Windows File Protection is monitoring that folder. It is the process that has it open. If one want to monitor a folder one has to open it as a file then give that open handle to the function that monitors file system events. Explorer does the same to any folder that is open in a window (so it can update the list if something changes).

I wrote a small program that asks WFP for what it is monitoring. Send me an email if you want it. There are 3028 files on non SP1 Pro that it monitors. Not all files that it monitors are actually installed. It monitors all files that COULD be installed.
