It still opens it when I right click

Do you mean it opens - in new window - or you have the preview pane visible

It 'may' be as a result of the settings for the Preview pane, allthough if
you mean the mail is shown as open in the deleted folder ie envelope closed
in inbox but open in deleted I believe this is the default.

You can try Tools\Options\Mail Setup\Send Receive\Highlight All Accounts in
the Box and then select Edit and put a checkmark to Download Headers Only in
the Folder Option. This will download only the headers for your messages
without the body of the message. Then you can right click on any header and
select your options to Delete or Download the message. When done hit the
Send\Receive button and the selected message (s) will delete or download as
per you choosing.
