I keep getting a warning about my PC running low on disk space. After running
a search I have discivered that appear to be at least 3 copies of every
digital photo we have stored on the hard drive.

Is there some easy way to remove the duplicates or will I be forced to go
through every one individually?

have you run scandisk recently ?

You can do ctrl-clicks to select multiple entries, shift-
click to select a range, control A to select all... Is
that what you meant?

Sure. I knew that. What I actually meant was there some 'delate all duplicate
files' utility that I could run?

Now that I have checked further I seem to have multiple copies of some music
tracks also.

Before you do anything--XP file system shows duplicates in various locations,
but most times they are just shortcuts to the real files, not actual
duplications. You should backup all your pictures to removable media before
deleting anything.

Mary. Would it be impractical to copy the photos you want to keep to a
CD or another folder on your hard drive and then just delete the folder
that the duplicates are in? Just a thought. Dingo

If the files are in My Documents or a sub-folder of that then they
aren't duplicates or shortcuts but the same files with multiple paths to
the same locations. For example:

My Documents\My pictures\picture.jpg

is the exact same file and location as

Documents and Settings\[Your User name]\My documents\My Pictures\picture.jpg
