Hi, I need to uninstall Adobe reader, to install it fresh, but it dont allow
me, because this file cant be deleted "pdfshell.dll".
I have tried in safe mode , rename it, nothing helps.
Could you please help??
Thanks.

i would suggest (actually, i would
highly recommend) to use
foxit reader and or primo pdf. Install
them both if you want.

adobe reader is unusually bloated
for being a reader. A highly popular
reader it is, it is likely to have proprietary
encoding in addition to the "reader/viewer".

after installing the ones above, they
may superceed that dll. If not, then
make a new post, to go onto the next
step...

Hi Jack,
You need to take the ownership of the file first and then try to delete it.
*How to take the ownership of a File/ Folder in Windows XP I assume*:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421
If all fail try this tool:
http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/index.htm
HTH.
Please let us know.

I have deleted de dll file by renamed in safe mode, I was able to delete the
Adobe Reader form Programs in my computer, but it still refuses to be
deleted from Add and Remove Programs.
I tried in the Registry and is not allowed to be deleted either.
Adobe Reader stiil in my computer or what is left of it.
It tells me that :This path package could not be opened, verify that the path
package exists"
I realy need help.
Thanks.

Jack, as I said take the ownership of the file,, while you in the Registry
try to right click the file and see if you could change the permission to
take control of the file.
Try it in the Safe Mode, or reinstall the Adobe and use the unwise.exe to
uninstall it again that will help.

I can not take ownership of the porgram, because doing right click in the
file while in the Registry, there is not a option.
While in safe mode, I tried in the Registry, deleting denied..
Also in safe mode as an administrator, in Add and Remove, also denied.
Could be something to do with Windows Installer?
I was able to delete it from My Computer, From all users, from guest, etc..
I did search the comtuter , not files found.
I dont know what else to do....

Hi Pedro, I dont see the Adobe Reader in the the Process Explorer.
I could kill the process but I dont see it.

Try to take the Ownership in safe Mode while loged as Admin, or reinstall the
Application and use it's Uninstall.exe (unwise.exe) Engine to uninstall
properly this time.
Did you try the Purgeie tool in both Safe mode and BNormal Mode, is your
computer clean from malware and viruse.
I'm afraid your Admin profile may be corrupted!, did you tried the delete
option on another file to see if your credintials are working.

Try this Deltree command by opening a Run command and type:
CMD.exe click [OK] and on the Command Prompt type:
C:\>deltree C:\Jack\pdfshell.dll Hit Enter and the file will be deleted.

HTH.
