I'm new to XP so please forgive me...How can I delete an
icon from one user but not all?

Everyone in the hosue is an adminstrator (I trust my
kids) but if I delet an icon from my desktop I noticed
that it disappears from everyone's desktop.

I would like to be able to delete it from a single user
not everyone's.

Thanks in advance

You are inadvertantly deleteing an icon from the "All Users" group, or

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

and you are most likely the "first" or "original" administrator. You should
create another admin account for yourself so you will not effect others.
In the meantime, you could cut the icon from the All Users Desktop and paste
them on all of the other desktops.

Also, the matter of trust is good, but NO ONE should go on the internet as
an administrator! This makes hacking far too easy for the bad guys. Please
read this short message from Microsoft:

Keep on safe computing,

It should be noted that this option is available for XP Pro only. It should also be noted that a good anti-virus program reduces this risk to very low if kept up to date. I have XP Home and have logged onto the internet as an administrator since the day I installed it. 2-1\2 yrs ago. To date I have never been compromised. But then I use as much protection as I can and have the firewall on at all times. Good luck. {:~)

If an icon is in the "all users" desktop, deleting it removes it from, guess
what - All Users desktops. Now, if the icon was on your personal desktop -
well, that's another story. Do what you want with it. It affects no one (or
as many here type, -noone??) else.
