Deleting an existing network

I currently have a Motorola cable modem on an XP system
connected thru the USB port. I am trying to connect a
Linksys router but the internet connection is not being
recognized because the ethernet port has been used by the
home network we had previously tried to set-up and do not
use. Can I delete the home network so the modem can use
that port? The only other thing I can think of is to
purchase another NIC.

Any thoughts?

Mike

Yes you can delete it. That’s now big deal, then it should open up that port for ya router. Purchasing another NIC is a good idea as they are only around $15 Australian.

There's nothing to delete. Enable the Ethernet connection and then
run the Network Setup Wizard. Tell the Wizard that the computer
connects to the Internet through a "residential gateway" (router).

If that doesn't fix it, configure the Ethernet connection's TCP/IP
properties to obtain an IP address automatically.
