I'm designing a database for a college. Most of the tables are related to
staff. But I'm thinking, if a staff member leaves and I delete him/her.
then all the things that they have done over the years will be deleted too.
So am I best to create an archive table or to have an option of hiding that
persons name to stop them being selected in the future?

Dear Chris:

A common way to deal with this is to create a "flag" field in the staff
table. This field will be used to identify "active" or "inactive" staff
members. You then set up your queries to filter out all those staff members
who are flagged as "inactive". The data is kept, just filtered out. This can
be helpful if the staff member happens to be re-hired!
