Outlook XP, SP-2. I moved my .pst file to another drive
by copying it, adding the copy to Outlook, and making the
new one the default for my email account. OK so far.
Then I removed the original data file and restarted
Outlook. The "Personal Folders" for that file still
appears. I deleted the actual file to see if Outlook
would realize it wasn't there. The "Personal Folders"
for that file still appears.

When i try to close the obsolete item from the folder
list pane, I get a "The operation failed. "An object
cannot be found" dialog.

Mail is going to the right spot, but how can I get rid of
this folder?

I've tried /cleanviews and /resetfolders, but those are
all Google could turn up for me...help!!

Thanks - John

Go into your registry at this point:
(Win 9x/ME) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\<your profile name>
(Win NT/2000/XP) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<your profile name>
Look in the tree under that point (it should be full of keys with long
hexidecimal value names) and look for a section that references the PST file
you want off of your folder tree. Export that section (for safety) and then
delete it.

Thanks for the reply, Vince. When I looked in the registry, there was no
key with my profile name under Profiles, but there was a key named
'Outlook', and under this key were a slew of other keys with hex names like
you described. Under each of these hex named keys were several values.
Some values held the string for the path to the pst file. Deleting all
these keys that contained these values did make the PST entry disappear the
next time I ran outlook, but I also got a couple of severe errors, and the
app couldn't retrieve email (more errors). Restoring the portion of the
registry hive didn't completely fix matters, either. I had to repair the
Outlook installation to get functional again, and when it came up, the
invalid PST entry was back again...

Any thoughts?

Thanks - John
