#1 - I'm basically not very computer literate, so I don't
even know where to look in my hardware to possibly
replace a file that I inadvertently deleted.

I had an icon in my taskbar for showing the desktop. It
was entitled "showdesktop.scf" I've somehow managed to
delete it, even from the recycle bin. I'd like to have
it back. I've tried the search function - it says this
file doesn't exist.

It used to, before my dancing fingers somehow managed to
elminate it.

Can anyone help me?

The MSKB article http://support.microsoft.com/?id=190355
tells how to recreate the file needed for the Show Desktop icon. It also
suggests a location to save the file. However, I find that folder is not
present on my system.

You can add a Quick Launch folder in the suggested location and place the
newly created file there -or- add it to the folders for your user profile
(this is where mine is located at):
...\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch
