No. That operation was made to require several clicks so you don't
empty Deleted Items by accident.

No, you can right-click, then select "Empty..."
In the newer Windows Live Mail, you just click on an "x".

WM hasn't been updated since Vista was released, 2 years ago, and probably
never will.
WLM has had several updates in that time.
Both access newsgroups, POP3 and IMAP email accounts.
WLM can also access Hotmail & Live email accounts.
WLM can access RSS feeds, Live Messenger, and has an integral calendar.
WLM works better, with the auto-complete also accessing your contacts.
WLM has ~39 spell check languages, WM has 4.
WLM can synch with your Hotmail/Live account contacts and calendar.
WM can show you the message html source, WLM can't.
WM put all messages from all accounts into one Inbox.
WLM has separate folders for each account.
WLM has QuickViews, where you can see all Inboxes, etc. of all accounts in
one spot.
