I have a bunch of emails in my deleted folder that I cannot get rid of. When
I click on one of them I get the following message :

Message could not be displayed
Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

I have 3GB of memory open..What's the deal? Anybody able to help?

Drew,
By experimenting I found the following solution to my problem, which is the
same as yours:
--right click on the DELETED ITEMS Folder
--then right click on the box that appears to Delete the message
--then left click on the DELETE SYMBOL at the top of the screen

The TOTAL number of messages in the DELETED ITMES Folder will decrease one
at a time. You can only do one message at a time. It will not work using
the EDIT Empty All Messages in Folder.

When you complete the last message, then the EMPTY ALL MESSAGES in the EDIT
and the clicking on the DELETE SYMBOL will work normally.

This worked for me. I hope it will work for you.

Try this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090
"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a
computer that is running Windows Vista"

That page offers two download options. Unless you know for sure
you have 64-bit Vista, use the 32-bit option.

Although only 'Outbox' is mentioned, it will enable removal of stuck
emails from any folder.
