I have a virus that is only in my system restore files. I have purged my
restore a dozen times & its still in there. If I reinstall windows leaving my
files intact will that remove all of the existing system restore along with
the current windows application?

Dave, if you rt click on Drive Icon>select Properties>Disk Cleanup>More
Options>System Restore-Cleanup, that should
remove all but the latest. Try rt clicking on MyComputer>select
Properties>System Restore. Check the box Turn off System Restore on all
drives. Click Apply, Ok. Restart and Restart again and then turn Restore
back on when desired.

Thanks Rich

I've gone thru that process at least a dozen times with no success.
I have 2 harddrives each with an operating system. Drive C is virus free &
drive D has a virus in system restore. While I'm on Drive D I cannot access
Drive D system restore, the virus has shown it as a white screen only. I
cannot acces windows update etc.
I have been trying to purge Drive D from Drive C, with no luck. The controls
are there but I don't think its doing anything.

If I reinstall windows XP onto Drive D, leaving my files intact, will system
restore be deleted along with the existing operating system?

I have a virus

Which one?

Turn off system restore...then run your antivirus.

Whether it does or not, that probably won't solve your virus problem.

Are you sure you really have a virus?...or is it simply a false
positive?

At any rate, it sounds like you need to try an additional antivirus
program. Trend Micro has a good online program....as does Pandora.

Try a different program.

Have a nice one...
