I know how to turn off system restore but I need to be able to just delete a
specific restore point and keep the rest. Can I do this and if so how?

No, you cannot delete a certain restore point. You can delete all but
the most recent one using Start > run > cleanmgr.exe

Or you can allocate space to System Restore:right-clicking My computer
properties > System Restore tab > clicking configuration and moving
the slider, which could delete some old restore points, which ones,
however, one cannot say.

Hope this helps

‘Officially’, I think you can only drop all (disable sys. restore) or keep all
But, most likely, XP keeps ‘restores’ as compressed files (one file per restore point)
So, theoretically, you could just go and delete the corresponding file manuallyâ€
Just speculating…

I agree - wondered if there was an "official" way but I see that there is
not. I'll have to try booting to DOS and see what the files look like.

Thanx,

Vic, you can't selectively delete restore points. Each restore point is not
a complete set - the most recent is chained to the one before it and that's
chained to the one before and so on.

What you can do is use Disk Cleanup. One of the "More..." Options is to
delete all but the most recent restore point. Using this options gathers up
all of the bits in the various restore points and condenses them into a
one.
