We are giving PC's away to staff. The OS is being kept on it, but the other
partitons and free space we have deleted, but understand the space has been
made available to be written over again. How can we completely dlete this
"white space". This confidential data can be recovered and we dont want
that.

Visit www.Google.com
Enter "disk wipe utility" in the search bar.
Choose the utility that best suits your needs.

Acronis Drive Cleanser works very well and there are lots of other programs,
some free some not. You'll need to research them with Google.

Remember, if you are giving away the computers with a Microsoft operating
system and any Microsoft software like Office, you must also give the
employees the installation CD's and Product Keys.

If you can't do this, then wipe the entire computer and allow the employees
to provide their own operating system and software.

To protect your company's confidential business information and
data from any future users of average skills, you should, at the very
least, format the hard drive. If you wish to do a more thorough job of
protecting your friend's personal data, WipeDrive
(http://www.whitecanyon.com/wipedrive-erase-hard-drive.php) meets U.S.
DoD standards for securely cleaning surplus unclassified hard drives,
and could be used before formatting and reinstalling the OS and
applications.
