delete parts of the reply body

Usually when I reply to an email I can highlight part of the included reply.
However, sometimes I am unable to delete any part of the reply message. What
am I missing? TIA
 
What you experience is typical for HTML messages. Change the
format to plain text, and then you can edit the original text.
After you make the edits, you can change the format back to
HTML if you want.
