Can the subfolders, naming convention
$NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ and $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$, found in
the Windows folder, be removed? How do you find out what
they represent?

These are backup files that were created when a particular Hotfix was
installed. They're there, so that the original system files can be put
back, if you find you need to remove a particular hotfix. If your system
is stable, and you don't need to uninstall any of these hotfixes, see
www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Remove Hotfix Backup Files.

They can be removed but I would not recommend it. They store the last good
copy of files made during security/hotfix updates and the
NTServicePackUninstall directory of keeps the uninstall files for SPs.

They contain the files that would be needed if you decided you needed to
install the corresponding Windows Update ('Hotfixes' in Add/Remove
Programs). You can find what they are for at
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;xxxxxx

and if you decide you will *not* want to uninstall, then delete the
corresponding folder
