delete key not working

I have highlighted data that I want to delete. I hit the delete button as
normal and the text remains highlighted but is not deleted. this problem
started 2 days ago. Any ideas????? Thanks for your help in advance.

Dose Ctrl > Alt > Del bring up the Task Manager?
If not, pick up keyboard, turn upside down and shake vigorously. I
can't count the number of times I have found paperclips, pencil lead,
and the worst, muffin crumbs in the keyboard causing them to not
depress fully.

What application? If MS Word, UNcheck the "WordPerfect" settings in
Tools, Options, General.
 
I am having the same problem and can't figure out how to fix it. The answers
so far have not helped me at all. THis started for me 2 days ago also.
 
Are you certain this isn't just a keyboard problem? Perhaps the Delete Key
no longer works.
 
This started happening with me about 3 weeks ago. Very frustrating. The key
board and computer were new 2 months ago.

Has any one sorted this problem yet?
