To all I ask...When I right click and choose explore on my computer it shows
my 3 1/2 floppy drive that I no longer have installed ( new case and switched
to a dvd drive )
so what I need to know is can I just delete that drive and use that letter
and assign it to another drive ??Also what is the best way to delete it ??

Drew, just rt click MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device
Manager>Floppy Drive Controller>rt click on controller and select disable.
That's all there is.

Rich....Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it...Maybe you can
answer this one too.... My floppy drive was (A:) and my external drive is
(F:)...Can I now change the drive letter from F to A with no problems and
what is the easiest and right way to do it ??.......

Drew, I think the A: and B: are reserved for the floppy drives but you
can rt click on MyComputer>select Manage>Disk Management>rt click on your
external drive and choose change drive letter.

Make sure the drive is connected, then:

1. Open Administrative Tools | Computer Management
2. Open Disk Management
3. Right click on you external drive and choose Assign Drive Letter
4. Pick whatever you want.

By the way, make sure you also turned off Floppy Drive in the BIOS.

Then remove it from your bios setup screens.

Disable the floppy drive in the BIOS.

You can't use 'A' or 'B' letters - they're reserved for the floppy drives.

|| That's not true for Windows XP.

Floppy disks are legacy items designated to use a: or b:,

Sure but if they doesn't exist you are free to use A: and B:
to any drive you want. And with the right tool you can even
mount your floppy drive to any letter.

Under XP drive letters aren't much more that a compatibily layer.
