Sorry for this dumb newbie question but I found TEMP folder under my Local
Settings -- ie.

Documents and setting/myname/local setting/temp

This folder is about a GIG in size. I was lead to believe TEMP stuff can be
deleted? Is this true? Can I delete this folder, or am I missing something?

TIA

--Bex.

You can delete anything in this folder but you must maintain the folder
itself.

Normally, you are fairly safe deleting temp files, especially just after the
system loads, so there is little or nothing using temp files. There could
very well be some temp files that are still open. Those will simply fail to
delete, generating an error message. You can select around those, and delete
the rest.
