Hi

I have recently built a new computer using a modern motherboard based on VIA
KT600 chipset.
Even with the latest drivers, I cannot get USB2.0 to work correctly with
devices unless I use them via a USB1.1 hub.

When I connect either an external USB2.0 hard drive or memory card reader
and try to write to it, I get Delayed Write Error warning and the transfer
appears to hang. Occasionally, I manage to transfer a complete file without
problem though this is rare.

When used via USB1.1 hub, both devices work correctly though obviously at a
lower speed.
My USB1.1 webcam also refuses to work correctly unless connected via the hub

System is as follows :

MSI KT600 main board
Athlon XP2500 (Barton, overclocked to+3200)
1024 Mb DDR 400 Ram
Raid 0 striped pair 80 gig SATA Maxtor hard drives
Ti4200 GPU
Windows XP pro multiboot

Note that the problem occurred before CPU was overclocked so this is not a
factor.
I've already tried enable/disable write caching on effected drives.

Thanks

Via chipsets seem to have problems, see if Via has any
driver updates and patches.

Also have you installed XP SP1?

Thanks Jim

I'm using the latest USB 2.0 drivers from Via Website

XP fully patched and up to date

Any other ideas or workarounds that you can think of ?

Regards

My Intel D845G mobo works great, that doesn't help you much.

Is the delayed write error for USB or for the HD in Event Viewer logs?
Turn off disk the disk cache and see if that helps.

Q

I no longer have access to event logs as I have reinstalled OS since then.

I have done the "disk cache" thing on both the external HD and memory cards
via reader but it made no difference.

As I also had problems with other hardware connected to USB 2.0 ports, I
have presumed that it is a problem with USB rather than drives as drives
work under USB 1.1

I have heard that there is a USB 2.0 latency patch but have not been able to
track it down. I appear to have more problems writing to external devices
than reading from them.

What burning software are you using? Nero, EZCD, something
else?
