Delay in booting

I have noticed a delay of about 30 secs in
the bootup.
I have WinXP Home. Updated on a regular basis.
My computer is a recent one, with an AMD processor.

I made a boot log and found 17 pages of failed attempts
to load drivers, in between several drivers were loaded.
The final couple of pages were successful attempts to load.

There are so many drivers, but as an example, I have
noticed that it tried many times to load "WAN Miniport (LTP2)",
and three similar for IP, PPPOE, and PPTP.
These don't seem to have been successfully loaded.

I have a broadband connection.

I have never made a bootlog before, so I don't know if there
is anything here wrong.

I have a fully updated Norton 2003 AV and Norton Internet Security.
I have just completed a full AV scan, with nothing found.

I was advised about the said NIS being faulty, but I re-installed both
packages with no affect.
This is a recent fault and my software has run for over a year with no
similar problem.

Since then I have been advised that shutting off
the power from the mains would do it.
I don't see the reason for this, but it seems to have done the job!
