degrading emm386.exe error

my computer is a dell optiplex GX150 and has 256 mb 1.1 ghz I took it in to be serviced has winxp home editio
the problem was that the microprocessor clock needed adjustments ran to slow for new technology
when my pc came back the service tech degraded my pc to win 98 then had error of emm386.exe i have no idea what that was. then he gave me restore disk for my dell it ran into a ghost reader 7.0 and had a img.?? error it wasnt the restore i thought it be couldnt get out of it without it taking all my operating system stuff. so i put in a cd restore winxp and now my pc is really messed up even lost product key. now what do i do please help me please all i have is this pc for school thank you
 
Whomever serviced your PC screwed it up horribly - I hope
you didn't pay them; or, if you did, with a credit card
you can contest the charge on.

emm386.exe is a very old version of the "memory manager"
that DOS used with Windows 3.1. If the "service" person
used it, then things are pretty badly messed up. I would
suggest a complete clean install after formatting and
partitioning the drive.
