defragmenter

For the last 2 nights I have left the defragmenter run all night and still
does not have a 20Gig disk completed. Each night it makes some progress. Why
is it taking so long?

It could be that you have very little disk space left and the drive is very
fragmented. Windows defrag utility has to re-assemble the file fragements
into contiguous areas on the disk. But if the free and contiguous space is
not there it either cannot complete, and require you to run defrag multiple
times, or it will take a long time to defragment the drive.

Run defrag and do the analyze function. Save to file and paste it in this
post and I'll try to tell you why it is so slow.

The defragmentation process finally proceeded to the point where analysis
indicates the drive does not need to be defragmented. There seemed to be over
65% of the space free. I guess I just did not do this for a while and the
drive was just defragmented alot. Thanks

Probably because you have something running in the backgroun which changes
(writes on) the hd. Run defrag in safemode and check.
