I'm unabel to defrag. When I try, I get the following
message "Diskfragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is
scheduled to run on the volume: (C:),

Please run Chkdsk/f.
The problem is I can't/don't know how. When I schedule
Scan Disk to do a scan when restarting the computer I get
a message that Scan Disk cannot ope volume C.
Any suggestions?

More than likely you need to run chkdsk from a command
line interface. The easiest way to accomplish this is to
follow the steps below:

1st: Restart your computer
2nd: depending on what type of computer that you have you
will hear either one beep or a series of beeps pretty
quick after restarting your computer, immediately
following those beeps repeatedly hit the F8 key until a
menu pops up.
3rd: There will be one of two different menus that will
pop up depending on how your system is setup. The first
menun you might see is a selection of operating systems
or Windows XP Recovery Console option. If you see this
screen at the bottom of the screen it will say "Press F8
for advanced startup options. Otherwise you will see a
screen that will give you several choices for startup
including "Start Windows Normally" "Safe Mode" "Save mode
with Command Prompt" as well as several others. Please
select the option "Safe Mode with Command prompt. This
will bring you to a command-line interface.
4th: Once to this inferface please enter the following
inside quotations "chkdsk /F /R" (make sure that you put
spaces in as well as this is necessary. THIS MIGHT TAKE A
WHILE (15-20 min estimating). This is not guarenteed to
work but is something to try.... hope this helps !!!!
