Why is it that when I defrag the the C drive the report tells me that it is
still 7% fragmented?

Some files are still in use and cant be defraged in normal run-time
operation. To defrag all,you need to open system properties, advanced,
virtual memory settings, click the change button, set C: to no page file,
click set 2X,close-out.Set C; drive to do a CHKDSK /F (before or after the
page file setting),then restart computer.On desktop,run defrag,when thru,re-
open virtual memory, reset to before settings, click set 2X,restart computer.
Back on desktop,re-run defrag, see the diffrence.

do you have the Indexing Service running? the content indexing files, which
will grow to massive proportions, can't be moved by the defragmenter, thus
when the indexing service is running on your system, you will never get a
good defrag.

empty the indexing service's catalogues, then turn off the service, the
indexing files should disappear, if not, unhide system, hidden files, look
for *.ci and delete those files, then defrag again.

you may also be able to Pause/Stop the service temporarily, which might
unlock the CI database files so that defrag can move them

Thanks Francis
