I am trying to log in to XP Pro in Safe Mode and do a Defrag on my hard
drive and it won't run. Claims there is a engine that is not running. How
can I get this to run? I don't want to run it in normal mode because it
doesn't seem to run as well as in Safe Mode.

I don't want to run it in
--> normal<-- mode because it doesn't seem to run as well as in Safe
Mode???.

Huh?

There is no reason in XP to run Defrag in Safe Mode.

With XP SP2 the DCOM Server Process Launcher service needs to be running for
Defrag to work. That service probably doesn't run in Safe Mode.

Windows cannot connect to the Disk Defragmenter engine

is the error message.

Yes they did. I will run in normal mode. I downloaded a trial of DisKeeper
and it seems to do a way better job of defragging the drives then Windows
Defrag does.

Thanks!
