I always do it from Safe Mode just because I prefer to know there isn't
anything extra running in the background. My friend and fellow techie
runs his defrags in Regular Mode. Do what works for you.

I must admit, defrag under XP is a far cry from Win98. Run it from
Windows...no need to reboot in safe mode.

With xp, should I defrag from Windows, or in safe mode, as I did in win98?
