New problem for me. I'm trying to clean up my daughter's computer. It
won't defrag! When I start the computer just shuts down, period. I did a
successfull scan disk first in safe mode, and am trying to defrag in safe
mode -- but just won't do it. They are very low on space, around 850 meg
open. Could that be it?
Thanks

A minimum of 15 percent available free space on your hard drive is
needed for Disk Defragmenter to run.

Hello Judy...I just did a very large House-Cleaning on my DELL Dim 2350..I
would suggest you Copy all of your FILES and FOLDERS to CD..once that is a
success..DELETE them from your HDD..Label your CD's so you can FIND them
later..Leave them on the CD's..use the DiskClean Feature in XP..and then
DEFRAG the HDD..do a Re-Start..go to MY COMPUTER..Click the DRIVE/C:...Click
Properties..Click TOOLS.....Click(schedule)your CHKDSK..do a RE-START...it
should RUN from there..I also Re-Install all my software at intervals..or
even the complete OS gets re-installed..I have a 120-GB Hard Disk Drive..at
30-GB's(of FILES) its started to ask for help..I'll push that to about
60-GB's and its getting hairy over what might happen--nothing serious just
some--Hangups and mal-functions...I must then commit my time to re-Starts and
what-ever might upset my Security Software because of the LOAD...XP is great
but the PC needs a tune-up at times.
