Greetings,

When I start defrag (unsuccessfully)I get the following
message:

"mmc.exe application error, application failed to initialize
properly (0xc0000033)"

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Mark

Hi,

Expand a new copy of mmc.exe. Start/run msconfig, click on "expand file"
(general tab)

File to expand: mmc.exe
From: X:\I386
To: %windir%\system32

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386. If so, change the
"from" line accordingly. Reboot when finished.

I get the same message when I try to start msconfig, except that it says:

"msconfig.exe application error, application failed to initialize
properly (0xc0000033)"

It's the exact same message as with mmc.exe.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark,

Try this: Start/run "sfc /scannow"

Greetings Nutcase,

No luck with sfc/scannow. It is not on my hard drive (XP Home). There
are 2 each of:
sfc.dll
sfc.exe
sfcfiles.dll
sfc_os.dll

but no scannow.

Thanks, Mark

Try a space after sfc before /scannow
