when I went to do a defrag an error message came up stating "RUN CHKDSK/f."
what does this mean? and can I get rid of this?

actually this is the complete message sorry...

"Disk Defragmenter has detected that CHKDSK is scheduled to run on the
volume (C:)"
"PLEASE RUN CHKDSK /f."

at the command prompt type and enter: chkdsk /f

you will be given a message that it cannot run, do you want it to run at the
enxt boot.
opt for yes

then reboot

let chkdsk run

thanks philo...i tried this and got the same error message...is there any
other things I can do to get this going? is my computer fried?

are you saying that you did let chkdsk run on reboot?

if so...did it find any errors?

if it did and you try it again...
and if again it finds errors...you may have a harddrive problem

you should be able to go to the website of your harddrives mfg and download
(free)
a diagnostic utility.

if it finds the harddrive defective...
be sure to backup your data at once and install a new harddrive

If you go into My Computer, right click on the drive in question, click
'Properties,' then you will see an offer to 'Error check your disk'. If it is
the C:\ drive, then it will say do you want to do this on the next startup,
and it's your call from there.

This msg mean that u don't have right to do that.
u have to log on as user have administration right like administrator.
