Defrag taking long time

Hello,

I'm running a defrag on a notebook with a 30GB capacity & 21GB free and
Windows XP Pro SP2 and it's been at 22% for two hours and it's stating it's
moving file - REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE for a while now. When I check Task
Mgr, it states defrag is still running and the CPU is running at 100%.
However, the HD light isn't blinking. Should I be more patient or is there a
problem I should be aware of?

Stop the process, restart in safe mode, and then run defrag.

Stop the process, restart in safe mode, and then run defrag.

Deactivate the virus scanner, in particular, and try another defrag
program like O&O Defrag.

Delete intnernet cache and temp files. Then try in safe mode.
