defrag question

Is there any way to get defrag of XP pro to not only defrag the system but
also move the files together?

Standard it doesn't to this and my old version of Norton Utilities doesn't
run that well on XP. Or rather it causes faults.

Any other way to get this done, without me having to but a new version of
Norton Utilities or any other new software?

You probably need new software, although it is debatable whether additional
file consolidation actually improves disk performance. Your two main options
here are PerfectDisk from www.raxco.com (which emphasizes free space
consolidation as well as defragmentation) and Diskeeper from
www.executive.com (which doesn't emphasize free space consolidation nearly as
much). Here are two links that present the opposing arguments on free space
consolidation:

Incidentally, I have used both and would recommend either one. I cannot
notice any transparent advantage of using one over the other.

Can not answer your question however I found a small program that got rave
reviews, and I have been using it for nearly a year, without problems, here
is
the web addrerss,
http://www.driverheaven.net/dforce/default.php
after you install there are two tweaks that will deal with defrag
1. defrag boot files,
2. Ultra fast booting.
This program certainly speeds up "Shut Down" and speeds up 'Boot Up' If you
get a chance go to google and type in tunexp by driverheaven some impressive
reports. Free utility, and free of spyware/adware/scumware. No emails, no
newletters.
good luck
