I am trying to defrag and about 1/2 way through, I get an
error message stating it had encountered files it
couldn't defrag. The defrag has been stopped. The message
tells me to view defrag report for a list of files it had
encountered problems with. However, no files are listed
in report. How do I defrag my drive now? Please any
assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

I recently had a similar experience. There are some hidden files in XP. In
my case, it was $UsnJrnl that was the culprit. I downloaded an evaluation
copy of PerfectDisk from Raxco and defragged the drive (at startup, since
some files cannot be defragged whilst the system is in use). It solved my
problem temporarily but the same file is again fragmented. I can live with
that.

I'm not a computer pro, but I had a simialar problem.
I ran chkdsk, which required me to reboot. When I ran
windows defragmentation program, it worked. I don't know
if we are having the same problem, but I dont think that
running chkdsk, or norton' disk doctor could hurt.
