Windows XP Home User

Defragged the HD and received a msg stating that I needed to load my XP
disk. I did that the defrag completed and all was fine until I rebooted.
After reboot I receive a msg that I have to register XP by calling Microsoft
(when trying via modem it does not complete) once I call MS and read the
numbers on the screen the automated states the number is not valid. This is
the software that came with the computer.

If I ignore the re-registration I can get to my log in screen but not any
farther.

Any ideas?

How long ago did you buy the computer? Was it bought new?

Were you using the Disk Defragmenter which comes with Windows
or was it a third party Defragmenter?

Normally if Disk Defragmenter encounters a problem it asks you to run
chkdsk ( also known as the Error Checking Tool). Are you sure about
the message saying to insert the Windows XP CD?

Is this a networked or standalone computer? Are you the only user of
the computer?

When you telephoned Microsoft did you speak to a person or an automated
voice mail?

Hope this helps.
