I set up defrag to run automatically in the task scheduler by telling it to
run c:\windows\system32\defrag.exe C: but it dont appear that it is
running, a dos window opens and shows the analyze info and it onlys takes a
couple of seconds and nothing else happens. What have I done wrong?

I have followed these directions previously but it dont appear that is
working, something else is wrong. I was hoping someone could suggest why it
just opens a dos window.

Why do you need to set up an automatic defrag in the first place? The XP
file manager (particularly if you are using NTFS, which you should be) is
far superior to that which existed in the W9x versions of Windows. Unless
you are using many hundreds of files daily, you shouldn't need to defrag
anything like as much as with Windows 9x....

....and let's not forget that XP performs partial defrags in the
background every 3 days or so. Not the same as a full scale defrag with
a third party defragger, but for most home users the latter is unneeded.

Perhaps it quits because no defrag is needed. That is not a DOS window; it
is the window which the cmd program opens. It may look like DOS, but it
isn't DOS.
