I have installed defender but it keeps saying it wants to update so I click
ok it updates and then after about 30 seconds it does it again. I have
noticed it is always the same update. Also when I open defender it says it
hasn't been updated for 28 days so I click check for updates and the icon in
the taskbar says its connecting then it says it is now up to date, but there
is no change with defender and this other update continues to install and
then install agian.
I have tried to uninstall then install again. I have installed it again with
it installed to carry out maintenance but non of this works.
What is wrong with it ?
any help is appreciated.
Cheers

It's a BETA, not a final version and only testers of the program should
install it on their test machines. It is not to be used on a machine
that you use for anything important. Personally, I am happy with Spybot,
AdAware, Spywareblaster and Spywareguard and see no reason to install a
BETA program on any of my machines.

I appreciate that but I had the antispyware beta and thought it was pretty
good.
I have upgraded to the defender version on my laptop and it seems to work
fine on that machine. So I thought I would check for reasons why it is
playing up.
I guess I will go back to the anti spyware beta version
Thanks

It's your computer but I wouldn't put *any* BETA on my machines. Spybot,
Spywareguard and Spywareblaster do a good job of keeping nasties off
your machine and they are final versions and they are free.
Defender/Antispyware is free now but I bet when it becomes final, it
won't be unless you buy Vista.

I'm with you Wayne. I had the same problem with defender. I'm using OneCare
Beta and Anti-Spyware Beta and I love them both. They seem to be doing the
job well, so who cares if they are beta releases or not? There's no way it
can be worse then Norton AntiVirus, and I'd rather use a MS product that was
built by the same people who built the OS over a third party vendor anyday of
the week. I'm sure it won't be free in a few more months, but whatever they
charge, I'll buy it (them). They both could use some tweaks here and there,
but they're looking good so far.

There are newsgroups for Windows Defender. You might want to
post your question to one of them.

Newsgroups for Windows Defender (Beta 2): Learn and share
information

Good luck

You're having the same problem yet it is looking good so far? LOL! What
problems is the BETA causing that you don't even know about?
