Defender Refuses to Allow Programs to Start at Boot

Two programs that I wish to start at boot, Dimension 4 (v.5.0.35) and
Karen's Replicator (v.3.3.4) are stopped from opening by Windows Defender. I
then have the option to manually start them.

One of the things I tried to correct this problem was to right click on the
executable, open it's Properties, set it to be compatible with Win XP SP2
and to run it as an Administrator. The problem persisted.

For those of you wondering why I wish to run Dimension 4, it is because I
prefer to synchronize my clock more frequently than the Windows default.

Other than closing down Defender and not allowing it to run, how can I get
these two programs to open at boot?

There used to be a registry hack for XP to change the clock sync interval.
Has anyone tried it to see if it works with Vista?

There is another post about this just a few minutes ago in another thread.
Here's the gist of it, credit (e-mail address removed):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient

Someone in this group ages ago, posted a method to get XP to update more
than once a week. also works with Vista EXCEPT using windows.com. They don't
want you polling their machine more than once a week, whether you hit it or
not.

I went back at it yesterday, and accidentally set it to update every 60
seconds vs every 3600 seconds [hour]. By changing all three registry entries
in SpecialPollInterval to 60 it took and checked time every minute. And no
failures this time. I can only assume all three registry entries needed
changed instead of just the one.

I use Avast, not AVG and I still have the problem. I thought it was
defender, but I disabled defender and still have the problem. If anyone
has any other suggestions, I welcome all of them. Thanks.

I've been communicating with the author of Dimension 4, who interestingly
enough, is a Microsoft employee. He is aware of the conflict and indicated
to me that he would be coming our with a new version of his software.

I also wrote to Karen Kenworthy, writer of Karen's Replicator. Since writing
her, a new version of Replicator, 3.3.5, has appeared on her web page. I
downloaded it, installed it and tested it with Vista and again Defender
refused to allow it to start at boot. So far I haven't heard from Karen,
herself, but assume I will as when I have contacted her in the past, she
always wrote back. I hope she isn't ill.
