Defective Product key?

Just purchased Windows XP Home (finally) from an Office
Depot store. Started installation and entered product key
on back as instructed. Told it is INVALID and
installation will not start. No support at number given
on cover (discontinued)! Fluke or are none of these
upgrades anygood and we're just supposed to buy a new
computer with XP already on it!!! I'm furious!

Carey, I called the number for customer support given in
the product and heard a message that they are not
supporting certain programs, not one of which I called
on. That message also instructed me to go online to this
group to get answers!

If Carey's suggestion does not solve your problem(get someone else to type
in the number for you once as well), you can return the product to the store
since it sounds like a retail product. Heck, it has been less than 30 days,
accordingly if you wanted to bring it back, Microsoft does offer the 30 day
return policy. For example, here is the North America policy page:
